Flemington, NJ (PressExposure) March 07, 2007 -- Flemington, NJ, March 7, 2007. Flemington authors, Yvonne Brooks and Steven Grant, recently published two new childrenâs books featuring the unique adventures of four spirited pygmy goat kids.
Meet the Goat Kids and The Goat Kids Explore the Woods are the first two volumes in a series of childrenâs books planned by Yvonne Brooks and Steven Grant. âWe purchased an acreage outside of Flemington along with four pygmy goats to browse the fields,â noted the authors.
They thought they were retired from the corporate world, but now find themselves more and more involved in the goat kidsâ books. âThe goats were playing with our childrenâs toys more than anyone else. They jumped on the trampoline, pushed each other off the slide and generally ran around like crazy,â Yvonne said. âThe goats were having so much fun playing together that we thought it would be great to share that with other children through the first book, Meet the Goat Kids, published in 2006.â
The second book, The Goat Kids Explore the Woods, published in 2007, almost wrote itself when Ms. Brooks and Mr. Grant were shooting photographs for the first book. âWe were trying to get some shots of the goats sleeping in the grass by our pond,â said Mr. Grant, âbut the goats kept running off the set and climbing up into the trees around the pasture.â These pygmies exhibit no natural fear of heights and are shown in the second book exploring the woods surrounding their home in search of their favored climbing trees. âThe reaction from children around the country has been tremendous,â commented Ms. Brooks.
Both books are currently offered in independent bookstores like McNally Robinson in New York City and Main Street Books in St. Charles, Missouri. âRetailers have been very responsive to the beauty and artistic quality of the photographs in the books,â said Mr. Grant. Their first big event is a book signing at McNally Robinson on March 31st from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in Manhattan. Children will receive free goat stickers and bookmarks at the event.
The books are available nationally through Hoegger Goat Supplyâs online store and at the goatsâ own Website http://www.goatkids.net. âWe just signed distribution deals with Grantâs Farm in St. Louis and a chain of Lagoona Magoo toy stores in Illinois and Missouri,â noted Mr. Grant. âWe carry books in the trunk of our car everywhere we go and look for opportunities. Weâre trying to build a second career one goat at a time, one book at a time.â
