The problem with Outlook is that it stores all of your information in one PST file, creating a precarious situation in the even that the file becomes damaged or inoperable.

Some of the things that can cause a corrupt or damaged PST file are incomplete transfers over a network, removing a USB drive before it has been properly disconnected, viruses and malware, and unexpected shutdowns or power outages.
