Newly Released IOS App Nixie Calculator Puts a New Twist on Steampunk

Stratford, United Kingdom (PressExposure) October 09, 2013 -- You may remember Kev Stenning's Limited Edition Steampunk Nixie clock? Well, he wanted everyone to be able to own it but realising how expensive it is, hit on the idea that he could make it as an app for everyone to enjoy albeit several thousand pounds cheaper! The ultimate aim though, is to build both the Clock and Calculator as limited edition art pieces.

The overall look of the app is one of Brass, Glass and printed circuits. The bellows which enclose the outer glass tube, open with an almighty hiss to reveal a set of glowing nixie tubes. There is a colour changer function available which lets you change the colour of the tubes from the traditional warm orange glow of an IN-18 tube to the hyperreal neon hue of something not of this world. Upon hitting the calculator button, you are presented with a set of keys that click with the satisfying sound of an old typewriter.

When not in calculator mode, you can spin and drag the whole unit around and even zoom in to some very intricate metalwork and printed circuit board detail. You can even switch the gyroscope on, keeping the calculator in a fixed position relative to the world as you move around.

If you are the kind of person prone to falling down manholes whilst using your device, it may be worth checking out the camera mode which puts the view from the rear facing camera as the active background for the app.

This is a unique app which makes the simple act of using a calculator a fun experience as well as a must have item for anyone into Steampunk.

The app is available to download now from the app store. An android version will be available shortly along with the release of a companion Steampunk Nixie Clock.
