One Female Politician Down While Another Won't Quit

Port Vila, Vanuatu (PressExposure) July 20, 2009 -- A week in the political arena can be a very long time, as Mark Sanford has just proved, with his love-romp in Buenos Aires. He not only risked his job, he has ruined any presidential ambitions he may have had. Besides that he has put in jeopardy his Department of Homeland Security clearance. Sanford possesses top-security status that allows him to have access to confidential information, such as any possible terrorist, or emergency situation.

The troubled Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, who has been constantly in the news of late, says she has resigned from politics, for reasons as yet unclear. Rumours abound as to the real reason for her resignation. Everybody wants to know if she has fixed her eyes on a run for the presidency position in 2012, or has she destroyed all her chances?

Although woman politicians have never found the journey easy, in a male dominated arena and the pathway is liberally littered with the bones of long gone would-be successful-women-in-power, some still plod on. In particular, Hilary Rodham Clinton is set to see her star continuing to ascend, in the world arena.

With a major foreign-policy speech at the Council of Foreign Relations in Washington, Clinton campaigns to elevate her profile, before leaving for India. Besides missing the G8 Summit, Clinton has missed out on two overseas trips, due to surgery to repair her broken elbow. No doubt during her 'down time' Clinton has been doing a lot of thinking and forward planning.

Clinton proudly displayed the official State Department seal on her black arm sling, after falling fell in the car par, on her way to a conference with President Barak Obama. Clinton is now undertaking intensive physical therapy six times a week. A treatment she will have to maintain for the next eight weeks.

President Barak and Michele Obama have continued with their overseas trips, in an ongoing program to woo the world. The weeks have been filled with visits to Iran, Turkey, Russia and London to calling in at the Vatican, Rome (where Michele Obama wore a black head veil in respect of catholic tradition), as well as a date in Paris and visiting an historic slave-trading place in Ghana. The whirlwind courtship has not ceased, with Air Force One turning into a second home (complete with wardrobe).

Clinton will have a long hard road to tread, to catch up to President Obama, if her profile is to be truly raised. Coming from being a main contender for the position of president, to being a team player Clinton has had to work overtime to obtain the president’s trust. The first six months have been fairly low key, however this relationship could be about to change.
