New York, NY (PressExposure) January 08, 2012 -- The Coen Brothers along with Scott Rudin Productions and StudioCanal are set to begin principal photography on the music world feature film drama "Inside Llewyn Davis" in New York starting February 6, 2012. Casting is now underway for supporting roles, day players, extras, stand-ins and photo doubles for the film's stars. Open casting calls are scheduled for both union and non-union talent. Shooting will continue through April 3, 2012 with a theatrical release in 2013.
The movie takes place in the midst of the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene It follows a central character named Llewyn Davis - loosely based on the late singer Dave Van Ronk, a good friend of Bob Dylan's and other famous musicians such as Joni Mitchell, Tom Paxton, Patrick Sky, Phil Ochs, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Van Ronk received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in December 1997.
Oscar Isaac plays Llewyn Davis, who is a hot-tempered struggling folk musician from Queens that can not seem to make ends meet, although he is a very talented guitar player and singer. Justin Timberlake and Carey Mulligan portray and husband-and-wife pair of musicians named Jim and Jean. John Goodman will play a jazz musician who takes Llewyn Davis on a road trip, since Llewyn refuses to fly and never learned to drive. Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham will play legendary folk musician manager Bud Grossman. Stage actress Jeanine Serralles has also joined the production.
In addition to producing "Inside Llewyn Davis", Ethan and Joel Coen will direct from a script they wrote partially based on Dave Van Ronk's memoir, "The Mayor of MacDougal Street". Scott Rudin, who also produced "True Grit" and "No Country for Old Men" for The Coen Brothers, will reteam to produce "Inside Llewyn Davis". StudioCanal is financing the film and handling international distribution.
