Overseas Education Falling Prey To The Increasing Fraud - 500 Visa Applications Rejected By UK High Commission In A Single Month

Chandigarh, India (PressExposure) August 31, 2009 -- Indian students have always aspired for International education for better quality, independence and global exposure. And the number is considerably increasing year after year. Reasons being the opportunity to explore new disciplines and a value addition from a personal as well as professional point of view apart from easy availability of loans. International education offers the students range of experiences including personal development, cultural exposure, internationally acceptable qualifications and an opportunity to use the world class infrastructure; all leading to a successful career by becoming world ready even before they complete their qualifications.

But off late, there has been an increase in the usage of fake documentation for getting the beneficial visa outcome. Fraud ranges from fake financial documentation such as bank loans or bank statements, fake marriages and also fake qualifications documents. In some cases, students opt for use of such fraudulent documentation; agents are driving the use of fake documentation in others.

Most of the countries have overhauled their migration policies to curb such frauds. These policies have been revised with an aim of attracting genuine students. Whilst on one side, there are issues related to the fraud in the student visa applications, the governments are also concerned about the quality of the colleges that are attracting the international students. The recent changes in the UK student visa rules require all colleges, universities and educational institutions to be registered with and have a license issued by the UK Border Agency. This change in the UK student visa related rules have resulted in decrease of visas approved to Indian students. Between April 1 and June 26 this year, almost half, or 49.1% of student visa applications from India were refused.

Talking about the issue, Mr. Naresh Gulati, CEO, Oceanic Consultants says, "Students should strictly prevent usage of fraudulent documents as it gravely hampers their dream to study abroad. The consultants' role takes a serious turn here as they are very vital in guiding students in the right direction. There is a need for the right kind of people to step forward to help the students out."

He continued to guide and added, "The students should carefully evaluate the study options including course and institutes otherwise they are risking their future prospects and career."

International education is a valuable industry forwarding a noble cause and should not be hijacked by illegal and unethical behavior of desperate visa seekers." Gulati warned.
