Chennai, Tamil Nadu India (PressExposure) November 16, 2011 -- Puducherry Municipal Services Pvt Ltd (PMSPL), India's first truly integrated solid waste management service provider today launched 'Right to a Clean Neighbourhood' campaign in Puducherry, Oulgaret Municipalities and Villianur and Ariankuppam Commune Panchayats under the Urban Agglomeration of Puducherry.
The 'Right to a Clean Neighbourhood' campaign is aimed at educating the common man on the street on his right to a clean neighbourhood and how he can enjoy the same by actively participating in the initiative by ensuring that he throws garbage into the bins placed at street corners or to keep the waste generated carefully packed in bags and handed over to the PMSPL community workforce who come every day to pick it from their door steps.
People have a right to live in a clean, safe environment. Shopkeepers, individuals and households also have a responsibility to protect their local environment, and to ensure that their waste does not create a health problem for neighbors. By placing the bins at various locations in the city, PMSPL encourage people to dispose the waste in an environmentally friendly way and expects their cooperation to keep the city clean.
"We are continually leveraging best practices to provide high quality Integrated Solid Waste Management Services in Puducherry and the adjoining Municipalities and Commune Panachayats," said Lt. Col (Retd) C P Prem Vas, COO, PMSPL.
He further adds that, "It is the duty of every citizen to engage in activities that has minimum impact on the environment. This endeavor underlines our commitment to effect a comprehensive change in the way waste is being disposed off by the general public. Our 'Right to Clean Neighbourhood' awareness campaigns being run concurrently on the nuances of segregation of the waste across the region, is sure to help people to actively participate in the initiative. We are proud to have been part of this excellent initiative and believe the initiative helps reduce the waste which scatters on the road side of Puducherry."
Community members' responsibilities in managing their waste include:
- keeping their area free of rubbish that is likely to attract or shelter vermin
- securing rubbish bins against street dogs, cats, rats and other domestic animals
- making their bins available for regular collection
- cleaning up waste regularly to prevent flies breeding
- taking excess household waste to the waste bin
- not illegally dumping waste, especially hazardous waste.
