Protests in Punjab Over Tytler Issue

Jaipur, India (PressExposure) April 10, 2009 -- Jalandhar. Hundreds of activists of radical Sikh organisations, including Damdami Taksal and All-India Sikh Federation (AISF), today blocked the rail traffic at Dakoha railway crossing in protest against CBI`s clean chit to 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused Congress leader Jagdish Tytler.

The protesters, led by Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh and AISF president Karnail Singh, shouting anti-Tytler and anti-Congress slogans staged a dharna on the railway track leading to halting of many trains in the region since 11.00 am.

Due to the protest, Sealdah-bound Akal Takht Express had to be stopped near Beas on the Amritsar-Jalandhar track while Ludhiana-Amritsar via Jalandhar DMU was halted at Dakoha railway crossing outside Jalandhar Cantonment. Delhi-bound Shan-e-Punjab and Shatabadi Express were stopped near Khanna by the railway authorities due to the blockade.

The protesters alleged that the CBI gave clean chit to Mr Tytler and Mr Sajjan Kumar under the influence of the Congress party and warned that the agitation would be intensified across the nation if the decision was not revoked. They demanded a probe by an independent agency in the 1984 anti-Sikhs riots.
