Rare Reuse - Damien Brown, Jeweler Behind the San Damian Collection

Beverly Hills, CA (PressExposure) May 21, 2008 -- The San Damian Collection blends only the most exotic semiprecious stones known as SD Couture and gallery quality glass fusion pieces called SD Street with fine sterling silver. A portion of the silver used in our collection is recycled from previous seasons and discontinued currencies. We are also developing innovative programs to source out recycled copper which is traditionally used as a hardening agent to smith pure silver into sterling silver. Over the past 4 years we have developed a process of hand mining and custom cutting our semiprecious stones that minimizes negative environmental impact. The resulting Larimar, Labradorite, and Rainbow Moonstone pieces are still of the most exceptional color and quality, declares Brown on how he incorporates sustainability in his jewelry line.

"San Damian is Spanish for Saint Damien a subtle figure in the Catholic canon of saints. I chose San Damian for the brand partly as an aptly named alter ego and secondly as an inside joke (I was no saint). I was actually named after Father Damien of who gave his life in service of a leper colony on the island of Molokai. Some of my best friends from Hawaii went to Damien High School," remarks Brown on developing the name for his line that has quickly become coveted by jewelry loves worldwide, and captured the attention of young Hollywood.

Paris Hilton, Evangeline Lilly, Kimberly Stewart, and Gabrielle Union are just a few names of hot young Hollywood stars seen wearing necklaces from this amazing collection. But, make no mistake Brown also caters to the styles of men ranging from athletic to metro sexual and everywhere in between. Brown confirms, "The San Damian brand is all about simple elegance, versatility, and individuality. Our designs speak to the individual who appreciates a one of a kind piece and we provide the means for them to blend San Damian with their own style." Using exotic materials and allowing his creative genius to be uninhibited in the design process, Brown's line has total cross gender appeal.

So how did Brown begin his career? "I have a BA in Foreign Language and International Politics/Economics. It didn't take long working in the corporate sector before I branched out, starting up my own import/export company in 2001 and traded an assortment of commodities. In 2003 I began toying with the idea of creating jewelry that was original in design and concept. My international contacts allowed me to procure the exotic materials that today are at the center of my design work." It appears that having changed professional direction was a smart decision. Brown is now paving his way in the industry of his choice and on his own terms.

What's next for this exciting emerging collection? Brown enthusiastically dishes, "This Spring/Summer San Damian will be the first to hand etch original artwork into the face of semiprecious stones. Our Tibetan Calligraphy series will include Black Obsidian etched with Earth element and Tiger's eye with Hematite etched with Fire Element. These looks will be on fire! In the coming seasons I've got some amazing innovations in the way of exotic materials and manipulating them in a way that hasn't been done before. Stay tuned!"
