Recluse Chef is Now Sharing His Famous Recipes on His Blog

Silver City, New Mexico (PressExposure) September 10, 2011 -- One of the best "relatively unknown" chefs on the planet is sharing some of his recipes that will be in his upcoming cookbook (The Kiss Method Gourmet).

Who is Shevek Barnhart?

Chef Shevek M. Barnhart is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and has been cooking professionally for 35 plus years. He is presently the Executive Chef and co-owner of Shevek & Co. Restaurant in Silver City, NM.

He has cooked in venues as diverse as Moosewood Restaurant (the most famous vegetarian restaurant in the world) in Ithaca, NY, the Café Sparrow (one of the originators of what later came to be known as California Cuisine) in Aptos, CA, and the historic Ivy Inn (classic American and Continental foods from the colonial era to the present) outside of Charlottesville, VA.

His cuisine is Mediterranean and Mediterranean Fusion. After graduating from the CIA he traveled for years in the Middle East, Southern Europe and North Africa.

About Shevek & Co. Restaurant

Shevek's (as it is known by the locals) is a Mediterranean inspired restaurant that has brought an incredible dining experience to the Silver City area for the past 10 years. Chef Shevek's commitment to seasonal, local, sustainable source ingredients has been a mainstay of his operation since opening.

He says, "We Support the Slow Food Movement."

"This means that we prepare each dish from scratch to order using the finest ingredients. We encourage our guests to take as much time and care savoring their meal as we take preparing it. Creating a less stressful and more pleasurable and healthful dining experience is our ultimate goal. Therefore, if you are in a hurry, please return at a time when you can relax and dine with us."

In his cooking practices, Chef Shevek makes the following commitments:

- to encourage sustainable agriculture by consistently increasing our purchases from such sources;
- to feature seasonal menus reflecting the freshest ingredients;
- to use as much locally-grown and organic produce as is available;
- to purchase only sashimi-grade seafood that is on the Monterey Aquarium's "Seafood Watch List" as a "Best Choice" or "Good" alternative;
- to buy such grass-fed and locally-grown meats as are available.

Chef Shevek's classic approach, along with today's new techniques transforms traditional Mediterranean cuisine into something totally different and exciting. His recipes will change your ideas about Mediterranean food, but also food in general. (Read his blog to find out more in detail how he views food and chefs in general!)

Shevek & Co. serves Michelin class food without the "prima donna" attitude. This definitely appeals to all of the locals, international travelers and tourists who seek out his food. It has attracted movie stars, international travelers and sophisticated diners who are passionate about good food and wine as well as those who simply desire a nice, quiet and comfortable place to have an incredible meal without the "attitude" price tag.

So why share some of his recipes to the world? Very simple he says, "A true chef, besides giving back to other cooks and chefs through passing on what he has learned, must not have such an ego that he cannot share his/her recipes. Give others the chance to taste and experience the flavors of the world."
