Saturday, August 9 UN International Day for the World's Indigenous Peoples

San Francisco, CA (PressExposure) August 06, 2008 -- AIM-WEST is holding an event at UN Plaza in San Francisco this Saturday August 9 from 10 am until 1 pm, to commemorate the UN proclaiming August 9th as International Day for the World's Indigenous Peoples, as part of the UN Second Decade for Indigenous Peoples.

This Second Decade for Indigenous Peoples also complements the UN Millenium Development Goals (MDG), established by the UN General Assembly to set standards in addressing malnutrition, and advance education as a means to eradicating poverty in the world.

Please look at the website and into the UN Permanent Forum for Indigenous Peoples. All media networks are invited to cover the historic occasion.

Only the USA and two other countries in the world did not sign on to the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and that we here in the belly of the beast are angry about it too!!

We call on the US presidental candidates to consider signing on to the Declaration and if it is endorsed before election day all the better and an indication of their sincere desire to reach out and recognize the universal rights for Indigenous Peoples! Currently that is not the case. And, we want all friends and supporters to come out and join with us in one voice and give thanks to all Indigenous peoples especially those of this western hemisphere, sacred Turtle Island, free all political prisoners, and provide for college institutions for American Indians.

All Drums are welcomed, and traditional dancers too. Solidarity government representatives and NGO's in solidarity will be on hand. Starts at 10 am, the press conference will be held at 11 am. There will be refreshments, and please bring additional to share.
