Karachi, Pakistan (PressExposure) July 18, 2012 -- The Institute of Space & Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), University of Karachi organized a seminar on "Prediction of First Sighting of the New Crescent Moon" on Tuesday July 17th 2012 at 4:00pm at Dean Office, Faculty of Science, University of Karachi, Karachi, Pakistan.
The Chief Guest was the prominent Astrophysicist and Ex-director of ISPA, Prof. Dr. Jawaid Quamar. The key speakers were member of the Sindh Zonal Roet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Sabir Hussain, the Astronomer, Prof. Dr. Shahid Quresh and Incharge ISPA, Dr. Jawed Iqbal. The speakers exhaustively gave their views on the problem of the appearance of the new crescent of the moon of Ramadan and chances of its visibility on 19th July, 2012.
Dr. Jawed Iqbal, Incharge ISPA and the chief guest Prof. Dr. Jawaid Quamar also shared their views. The scientist were of the opinion that there exists no ambiguity on the matter of the appearance of the Ramadan crescent and its visibility.
The problem is the consensus of Ulemae on its implication. Mufti Sabir Hussain mentioned that in the guidelines of Sharia, it is easy to decide that if moon is sighted in one place of the country then it can be implemented to whole of the country and following the scientific information, if in some other countries, the visibility of the crescent is not possible on that particular time and date, then they can decide according to their visibility conditions.
Dean Faculty of Science, University of Karachi, Prof. Dr. Nusrat Jamil also addressed to the Seminar. No. of prominent Astronomers, Scientists, Ulemae, Faculty Members and students were participated in this Seminar. This seminar was organized by the Organizing Committee under convener Dr. Jawed Iqbal with Prof. Dr. Rashid Kamal Ansari, Prof. Dr. Ayub Khan Yousufzai, Mr. Mirza Jawwad Baig, Mr. Naeem Sadiq and Mr. Faisal Ahmed Khan Afridi.
