South African Singer Khensy Wins Best Song Award In Portugal

Johannesburg, South Africa (PressExposure) April 17, 2009 -- Khensy, one of South Africa’s brightest young singers, has won the award for Best Radio Song for her track Hiya Kaya at the Rádio Nova Era Music Awards in Porto, Portugal at the weekend. She was chosen by the radio station’s listeners and was pitted against such stars as Beyonce and Katy Perry.

“I was amazed that when I arrived in Portugal my song was all over the radio. I went to a shopping mall and Hiya Kaya was piped through the shops. I almost felt like screaming out loud for everyone to know I was the voice behind the song,” Khensy said upon her arrival back in Johannesburg. “I am hoping this is the start of something great for me, particularly since I use a lot of Tsonga in my music. Despite my success overseas, my heart and soul lies with South Africa and getting on rotation here would be first prize”.

Hiya Kaya is something new for overseas markets, a different sound that is adored by a diversified audience of music fans. Even though the song is in Tsonga, the language barrier has proved not to be an issue for the European market, proving music genuinely does transcend cultural and language barriers.

Following the awards ceremony, this South African gem went on to perform at local hot spots and was interviewed by both television and radio stations all over Portugal. Khensy’s next big appearance will be at the upcoming Miss Botswana on 2 May 2009.
