South Pennines Has So Much To Offer For An Action-Packed October Half-Term

Hebden Bridge, United Kingdom (PressExposure) September 18, 2009 -- For a half term holiday to remember, it’s hard to beat National Trust properties for a fun day out for all the family.

And this year, with the help of a £1.6 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant, the National Trust has reopened a 19th Century former cotton mill in the South Pennines to the public for the first time in over 50 years.

Gibson Mill is a family-oriented visitor centre with hand-operated interactive displays, dressing up, dancing and exhibitions. With no link to the national grid, the mill is unique in the UK and is the National Trust's flagship sustainable building.

Around the Mill is Hardcastle Crag, 400 acres of unspoilt woodland and guided walks that offers something new to discover each season, from the icicles of midwinter to the carpet of bluebells in the spring.

Discover tumbling streams, glorious waterfalls and stacks of millstone grit, all crisscrossed by more than eighteen miles of footpaths and the Muddy Boots Café, which provides a welcome rest.

There is so much to do in the South Pennines, that the whole family can enjoy an action-packed week. Near to Hardcastle Crag is the town of Hebden Bridge - a magnet for tourists who come to enjoy its original shops and galleries, organic food outlets, restaurants and bars, fabulous walks and cycle ways, and surrounding countryside and attractions.

Hebden Bridge is an ideal base from which to explore and offers a good range of B&B accommodation, the jewel in the crown of which is Croftmill, a recently converted mill in the heart of the town.

‘Croft Mill’ has been lovingly restored to offer 12 immaculate and stylish 4-star self-catering holiday apartments to suit all needs and budgets.

Croft Mill can accommodate 45 guests in 12 apartments ranging from Standard (which is anything but) to a luxury Penthouse. The Mill even boasts a rooftop conservatory that is available to book for small functions.

The Croft Mill website at contains photography and a virtual tour of each luxurious apartment and there are more special offers as well as a booking enquiry form, a list of local events and information about the town and surrounding area.
