Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh, along with Gold Coast Mayor, Ron Clarke and bid boss, Mark Stockwell, led the bid delegation in an effort to sway Commonwealth Games officials to choose the Gold Coast location. The primary rival for the 2018 Games is Hambantota in Sri Lanka.
