Melbourne, Australia (PressExposure) December 12, 2012 -- After over a month from the time Taiwan officially became the 37th member-country to the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP), officials say that the program has been implemented very successfully. This is also backed by Bruce Linghu, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of North American Affairs, who adds that the implementation is going smoothly with only a few Taiwanese nationals being denied entry to the US at the border.
The reasons for denying entry to these few Taiwanese nationals was either relating to incorrect information provided in the visa application or because their reasons for visiting the US were other than business or tourism. As a result, Taiwanese nationals are encouraged to be honest when applying for their ESTA USA which happens to be a requirement when visiting the US under the VWP.
According to records, a 99 percent ESTA USA visa approval has been granted to Taiwanese nationals since 01 November 2012.
With the visa waiver, Taiwanese nationals need an e-passport, a National ID number and valid authorization through the ESTA USA system prior to travel. ESTA USA authorization will allow a Taiwanese national to enter the US for up to 90 days each visit for a period of 2 years. Conversely, American nationals or those who hold a United States of America visa will also be given the same 90-day visit to Taiwan without needing a visa for a period of 2 years. As for the achieving of a bilateral agreement on privileges and immunity to diplomatic staff, talks are still in progress.
