The Art Institute of Jacksonville Presents Mark George's Recent Paintings Exhibition

Jacksonville, FL (PressExposure) September 22, 2009 -- The Gallery Group at The Art Institute of Jacksonville hosted the opening reception for the exhibition of local artist Mark George’s Recent Paintings on Thursday September 10, 2009.

George paints on transparent corrugated roofing material and enjoys creating pieces without any visible brushstrokes. His work strives to exemplify an era of mid- 20th century advertising and urban street art- resembling torn pieces from aged billboards.

“I might not have an exact James Dean look-alike, but I might have a guy with a pompadour hairstyle,” said George.

George comes from a background in graphic design and commercial art. His primary source of inspiration comes from the 1960’s, a transformational decade for the arts. He had the chance to speak with the students from The Art Institute of Jacksonville in an open forum before the reception began.

"Our students were fortunate to get an inside look at the creative process by listening to and interacting with Mark. They were delighted with the tips and insights gained from his fresh perspective,” said Dr. John Pufahl, President of The Art Institute of Jacksonville. Pufahl added, "Our students were rewarded with a first hand look into the techniques that he uses everyday."

George’s Recent Paintings will be displayed in The Art Institute of Jacksonville Gallery now through October 7, 2009. The Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 8 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM until 4 PM.
