After medical school Dr. Lewey completed training in both specialties internal medicine and pediatrics. He was certified in both specialties in 1989 before going on to complete a subspecialty fellowship and board certification in gastroenterology in 1995. His practice has focused on stomach and intestinal disorders exclusively for the past 15 years. He is the medical diagnosis physician advisor to the local Celiac Sprue Association support group in Colorado Springs, he resides with his wife who has Celiac disease and their two children who are also gluten sensitive.
Dr. Lewey has authored over thirty book chapters, scientific articles, abstracts and lay articles. He has done bench research in Crohn's disease and has participated in numerous clinical research protocols.
