Port Vila, Vanuatu (PressExposure) August 31, 2009 -- Bill Clinton's recent visit to North Korea has been alleged by some people to have upstaged his wife, Secretary of State, Hilary Rodham Clinton. However, he has been busy receiving many awards from Universities, such as Tulane University, University of Michigan, University of Hong Kong, Pace Universityâs Lubin School of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology and Knox College. He has also been widely recognized as being a quiet achiever in his humanitarian work.
Many expected Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, to die a natural death, after having been in office from 1993 â 2001. Yet, in spite of the negative publicity over the Monica Lewinsky affair and other allegations of sexual misconduct, plus surviving an impeachment, Clinton received the highest end-of-office rating, of 66%, of any president, since World War II.
Clinton has continued to be involved in public speaking and humanitarian work, which covers the treatment of HIV/AIDS, to global warming. Clintonâs presidential library has the largest number of archives of any presidential library and in 2002 he became the first white person to be inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame.
The tallest building in Pristina, Kosovo, has been engraved with a photo of the former president. There is also a road called Clinton Boulevard. In Ballybunion, Ireland there is a larger than life-size statue of Clinton, in commemoration of the game of golf he played there.
According to the publishers, Knopf Publishing Group at Random House, Clinton's autobiography sold 400,000 copies, as well as setting a new world record for single-day non-fiction book sales. It was later released as an audio book. Clinton received an advance writerâs fee of $12 million. The audio version of his 2007 book, How Each Of Us Can Change The World, was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award, in the category of the Best Spoken Work Album.
Clinton came to an arrangement, on May 3, 2005, through the William J. Clinton Foundation, with major soft drink manufacturers, to stop selling sugared sodas and juice drinks, in public primary and secondary schools within the United States.
Bill backed his wife Hilary, in her bid for presidency. When she was defeated, Bill supported Barak Obama. Bill was announced as United Nations Special Envoy to Haiti in 2009.
