Launched by Noted Child Development Counselor and Practitioner

San Francisco, CA (PressExposure) January 25, 2009 -- A unique on –line toy retailer [] was launched today. Created by Dr. Suni Petersen noted family therapist, researcher and professor of psychology, the site is based not only upon her extensive professional practice, but upon her personal experience as a grandmother of six. Petersen saw the need for a retail site that not only offered single toys but monthly subscriptions to help busy aunts, uncles, grandparents, parents and family friends an opportunity to maintain close communication while building bonds with children who live far away. The new site provides them the opportunity to purchase specially selected, age and culturally appropriate toys that enhance child development. The site also offers information about how toys can enhance development based on solid psychological principles, and how family members can build strong bonds with far-away children. The special Toy-A- Month subscriptions ensure that the child receives a toy at the same time each month along with a personalized greeting and photograph of the giver. A stamped, self addressed “thank you” note is also included so the child may draw on it and send it back to the giver. This “send and receive” activity helps build strong attachments.

The toys selected are described in detail with special emphasis on how it each enhances childhood development and benefits the child. In this way, adults may better select appropriate toys. The site also contains helpful hints and a free, comprehensive overview to child development. One such hint is how to engage an active, easily bored two year old during your phone calls.

Petersen created the site recalling the difficulty she had finding and then sending appropriate toys to her grandchildren. “Even after I found a toy for one child in the household, given my busy schedule, it would take quite awhile before I found one for the other child.” she said. “Then the boxes would sit until I could find time to mail them. My good intentions of frequent contact were difficult to uphold.” According to Petersen [] solves this problem. “We select only those toys that make a positive contribution to childhood development, and then,” she added, “we make it easy for family members to buy and send them in a very personalized way which helps create strong bonds.”
