New Delhi, India (PressExposure) July 05, 2011 -- The global economic meltdown just did you a favour. The authoritative travel guide, Lonely Planet, has signaled the end of London's stature as an expensive destination by listing it as one of the world's top ten best- value destinations in its Best in Travel 2010 guide.
"Long ludicrously expensive, London has become much more affordable for visitors from abroad, if not for its residents," says the guide. " The favorable exchange rate means that travellers will often find hotels and meals up to half the price they were a few years ago." Another surprise entrant, along with Britain's capital city, in the best- value destinations list is the magical nation of Iceland, whose economy has been bankrupted by the recession. " The economic collapse in Iceland meant the island was no longer punitively expensive," says the guide, which is a must- read for all those interested in catching up with the world's hottest travel trends and destinations for the upcoming year. " 2010 is the year to discover this magical, mysterious country." India is on this coveted list; so are Thailand and Malaysia. " In India," advises the guide, " your money stretches almost as far as the in famous Indian stretchable time." This should act as an image booster for the country's travel and tourism business, which took a heavy beating in the aftermath of the terrorist strikes on Mumbai last year and the economic slowdown. Key players of the region, such as China, Singapore and Hong Kong, have been left out of the list.
For those of you who still aren't in the mood to plan an overseas trip, eTravelsIndia.com has made the choice easier by listing Goa as one of the top ten must-visit places for 2011. Another popular destination on the list is South Africa, which, according to the guide, not only has an amazing climate, vast unspoilt scenery, balmy sandy beaches, extraordinary wildlife and adventure activities, but also a low cost of living, so it offers excellent value for money.
You might not be able to cover all the destinations shortlisted by Lonely Planet for next year, but you have good reasons to spoil yourselves. Here's what Lonely Planet has to say: Other best value destinations for 2011: Bulgaria, Kenya, Las Vegas and Mexico.
