Unique Salt Cave Has Opened in La Grange, IL

Rutland, Vermont (PressExposure) May 06, 2013 -- Dr. Margaret Smiechowski, North America's foremost expert on Himalayan salt, is pleased to announce the opening of a new salt cave creation in La Grange, IL.

Primal Oceans Salt Cave at 8 S. La Grange Road opened on April 1, 2013 by co-owners Karen Stoelinga and Peggy McDonald after a visit to Sedona, AZ sparked an interest in salt rooms and spas. Primal Oceans features several types of spa treatments, including ionic foot baths and aquamassage, but will highlight the creation of Dr. Smiechowski.

"The La Grange cave has many things in common with other caves I have designed," says Smiechowski, "but it has some brand new elements that make it a one-of-a-kind.   This cave took about 900 man hours to complete as each component was hand-formed. It is made up of about seven tons of Himalayan salt. It also features a commissioned soundtrack with deep healing sound frequencies especially for this cave. And the lighting effects are incredible."

Visitors to the La Grange facility can sit "under the stars" with a custom fiber optic light system creating simulated stars against a black background in the climate-controlled comfort of zero-gravity chairs. A 45-minute session in the 487-square-foot cave costs just $35, and up to 12 people can experience the cave at once. The facility is open Monday through Saturday.

Research on the benefits of Himalayan salt is conducted regularly in Russia, China, and Poland, and has supported the belief that speleotherapy, the clinical use of salt, is highly beneficial for the respiratory system. In other parts of the world, Himalayan salt therapy is used for a wide variety of medical purposes, but salt caves like these in the United States are hailed for their relaxation benefits.

"It's the high mineral content that makes the caves so beneficial," says Smiechowski. "The Himalayan salt contains every mineral that the human body needs. Visitors breathe in the minerals and feel the benefits after just a few minutes."

"Every cave that Dr. Margaret designs is a work of art on its own, in addition to the amazing wellness benefits it provides," says Dr. William Kelley, owner of the Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center that houses Smiechowski's original creation.
