Jaipur, India (PressExposure) April 21, 2009 -- Varun urges EC to ensure peace while filing nomination
New Delhi. BJP`s controversial candidate from Plibhit Varun Gandhi, in a complaint to the Election Commission (EC) has claimed that the Intelligence Bureau in its report has disclosed a threat to his safety.
Mr Gandhi, in his letter to the Commission further said, ``apparently, I am being targeted for speaking out as a true Indian against terrorism.`` The BJP leader has requested the Uttar Pradesh government for an urgent review and upgrade of his security arrangements for the duration of the elections when he will be campaigning within the state.
``Unfortunately, it appears that petty political considerations seem to have come in the way of even this routine procedure. I am therefore bringing the matter to your attention so that you may direct the same to avoid any untoward incident that would disrupt the electoral process,`` Mr Gandhi said.
The BJP leader further added in the letter, ``I await your action in this matter as well as your response to my earlier letter requesting steps towards the peaceful conduct of my nomination process on April 22.``
