Alice Springs, Northern Territory Australia (PressExposure) March 23, 2007 -- Since Michael Reed and Alan Ezeir set up a domain name business in the early 1990s, DOT WS names have been selling like wildfire.
Both Tyra Banks and Justin Timberlake have one.
When Reed and Ezeir went looking for a suitable domain name, they ultimately focused on the domain extension .WS - which belongs to the tiny island nation of Samoa, deep in the South Pacific.
"We thought that the abbreviation .WS could be successfully marketed worldwide as the 'WebSite' top-level domain," said Mike.
"There were a small handful of other viable options, but through resolve and perseverance, we found that some countries were already using their domain locally, and not interested in becoming an 'open' or 'global' registry.
With a population of less than 200,000 people, Samoa had yet to utilize its domain on a massive scale. And, none of the other countries' domains compared to the potential branding power of .WS to signify 'WebSite'. After all," Mike happily exclaimed, "everyone in the free world knows what a web site is!"
Now, anyone wanting a .WS domain name can get one ... provided it isn't already taken by someone with the identical name. Once you've got it, it's yours as long as you wish to keep it.
These guys added real value to their .WS domain product when they not only provided the domain name, hosting, web-building software and email addresses all in one inexpensive monthly package, but also offered an associated multi-level-marketing opportunity.
The firm Reed and Ezeir established to manage their .WS domain name is now a highly successful company that has been mentioned in some of the most eminent magazines available.
And there's not much chance of it all just going away as the business is expanding rapidly through such outlets as Web-Names.WS which was opened only this week.
If you want to grab a piece of the Internet real estate and have your own, personalised domain name, there's no better time than now.
