What is The Big Deal with Building a Farm Pond?

Erie, Pa. (PressExposure) April 05, 2009 -- Ponds are growing more popular each year. First what is a pond? There are many names and sizes and just as many uses for the variety of ponds. There are two types of ponds above ground and below ground.

Typically the above ground ponds are smaller. From the size of a bath tub to a large swimming pool and they are more ornamental nature. Below ground ponds, such as a farm pond can be several acres in size. Part of the farm pond popularity comes from nature and recreation. Whether you want to build a farm pond or an above ground pond such as a water garden or Koi pond, Mother Nature will help by adding more life to the pond.

With any pond there should be fish. Fish can be fed and viewed for our entertainment and as a great stress reliever. Think of it as a very large aquarium but only being able to see from the top surface of the water. Goldfish and Koi are the ornamental fish for any size pond. Having the larger farm pond, game fish can be stocked for our fishing pleasure even for supper. These fish can consist of perch, bass, bluegill, catfish and trout. Not all fish together in one pond but certain species compliment each other as the pond grows.
