Port Vila, Vanuatu (PressExposure) October 01, 2009 -- Michelle Obama was photographed buying eggs, black kale, peppers, cherry tomatoes, pears, cheese, chocolate milk and other fresh farm products, Michelle Obama was seen to be high profile at the Fresh Farm Markets, that was recently opened, just a few doors from the White House. This is in spite of the city authorities having to alter a bus route for the event. This is part of the Do It Yourself phenomena that is sweeping the globe.
Is it the desire to once again get in touch with grass-roots, or the recession-driven money shortage, plus a personal pride of accomplishment, that has seen the rise of a group called âFoodiesâ that is driving the latest DIY craze? People who have a preference for farm produce and local products.
The response in the Do It Yourself sector in Europe is forging ahead of economic growth rates across the board. From a wave of enthusiastic home decorators, to a change in lifestyle, DIYers are rising-up in every section.
Information about DIY is booming, from decorating and remodeling and home improvement programs, to making your own moonshine, beer and wine, planning your holiday, or simply growing your own vegetables, or running your own business. The move is aided by the huge pool of information to be found on the Internet.
The new generation of DIY's come in all age groups, from making-over your old wardrobe, designing handmade books, to designer jewelry, or fixing things. Other people are enjoying making their own bread (wild yeast preferred) and jams, or curing their own bacon. Others simply want to renovate and sell their own property.
The social networks have added to the DIY phenomenon, as more and more people get the idea of helping themselves, as well as helping others, being dependent on self-reliance and choice.
The new generation of DIYers, however, are demanding high quality, usable information, so they can gain greater personal control, as well as responsibility. They want to solve their own problems, rather than be at the mercy of notoriously unpredictable and expensive service providers. No longer are people blindly following the âdoctorâs ordersâ, but doing their own research.
People who have the DIY spirit, are doing something positive about the inability of traditional institutions to meet their individual financial needs. No longer are they prepared to sit back and expect other people to hand it out to them, particularly when it comes to their financial security.
They are taking personal control in every area of their life, by concentrating on what they can do, rather than just looking around for someone else to do the job for them. Whether it is personal satisfaction, financial need, or frustration with the status quo, DIY business is booming.
