Fullerton, CA (PressExposure) August 20, 2009 -- At Arborland Montessori Children's Academy we offer education in 3 year cycles during which time the teacher forms a very special bond with the child, which is not possible when a child changes teachers every year. This is especially important in the early tender formative years. The child is adjusting to life outside home, and changes of adults telling him/her what to do is not the ideal situation for the child.
Here at Arborland, the mixed age combination in the room gives the child the opportunity to watch and learn from others, the first years watch the second, while the second year child watches the experienced third year child. This mix also teaches children to watch out for each other. A community spirit soon unfolds. The Montessori elementary room is a microscopic society, same as the society the child will move into when he is an adult. Another advantage of the mixed age group is that children are motivated to learn from the older children, and can move ahead if they are ready, they are not held back by a grade based curriculum.
The Montessori teachers at Arborland present all lessons in very small groups where there is plenty of opportunity for one on one instruction for your child. In the Montessori classroom, since the child is with the same teacher for 3 years, the environment becomes very secure for him/her; it's like being in a very warm supportive, nurturing family group. When your child attends Arborland Montessori Children's Academy you are sending them to a home away from home.
