New Delhi, India (PressExposure) July 25, 2013 -- With a look to support the WithCongress initiative - a volunteer driven effort of people supporting the ideology of Indian National Congress - a series of workshops were successfully conducted to train volunteers on engaging with citizens on policy issues in the online world and to fight against the prevalent right-wing forces.
The two workshops were organized in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and Bangalore, Karnataka on 1st and 2nd July 2013 respectively, with the blessings of Sh. Digvijaya Singh ji, state-in-charge for these two states.
The series of workshops was led by volunteers of WithCongress and representative of the IT Cell from Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).
WithCongress talked about the current political environment and the need for social media in such a scenario. The volunteers were introduced to the party's social media platforms including Khidkee, WithCongress, YuvaDesh, among others.
Khidkee is Indian National Congress' social network that invites any and all members to join to understand and discuss their vision of India; while YuvaDesh is a million plus community talking about the issues that are important to the youth of India.
The team talked about how social media is currently being used to spread false propaganda by the parties who are polarizing the nation.
The IT Cell of GPCC shared with the volunteers the work being done by them in the sphere of social media and emphasized the need for such a cell in every state to fight the communal forces in India.
Stress was laid on the need for fighting the opposing parties in the online world who are using paid armies of people to spread their message. The need for such an approach was documented by presenting examples of politicians of opposing parties who are spreading false propaganda using doctored images. It was further emphasized by looking at examples of politicians who are polarizing the online world with their partisan and communal agenda.
Sh. Digvijaya Singh ji graced the workshop with his presence and highlighted the need for being the foot soldiers of the Indian National Congress to win the battle and establish secularism. "We have a challenge. Challenge from an ideology that believes in violence and using religion as a weapon. But whatever language that other parties say, our language has to be correct, on basis of ideology, on basis of programs and policies. Let them say what they want to. There should be a clear difference between the followers of the Congress Party and others.", he said.
WithCongress is a volunteer-driven effort of people who support the Indian National Congress and its ideology. It is purely a people's platform where no one is owner or in-charge and each member is equally responsible.
The initiative exists to not only create content about news and views and disseminate them but also to help connect each one of WithCongress members with each other and the party.
The initiative is currently being run online through a website, Facebook page, Twitter handle and other communication platforms and offline through engagement initiatives and workshops like these.
