Working From Home - The Creation Station Moves HQ Back to Devon

Exeter, United Kingdom (PressExposure) May 28, 2009 -- An award winning art and craft programme for pre-school children has being relaunched in South Devon now that its founder, Sarah Cressall, has moved back to the West Country. Sarah has now established the company headquarters in Exmouth from where she will be supporting Creation Station franchisees around the UK.

The Creation Station provides hands-on art and craft exploration sessions which give even very young children the chance to safely experiment with a wide range of materials, tools and ideas. Weekly sessions for local tots and their parents/carers are held in Exmouth, Exeter, Countess Wear and Topsham. Children visiting last weekend’s Devon County Show were able to enjoy some arty fun at the Creation Station stand in the show’s Family Zone.

Mother of three, Sarah Cressall, developed the Creation Station concept in 2002, running sessions from her home in Exmouth, When Sarah relocated to Leicestershire in 2004 she took the idea with her and after successfully establishing the programme at community venues she turned the Creation Station into a franchised business. The programme received national recognition last year when the ‘Exploration & Discovery’ sessions achieved the Gold standard in the Practical Pre-School Awards and Sarah’s success story recently came under the spotlight when she was named Business Woman of the Year at the Leicestershire Women of Achievement Awards.

Sarah said: “Developing the Creation Station during the last seven years has been very exciting but it was always my dream to move back home to Devon and manage the business and the growing number of franchises we have around the UK. Now that I am back I am looking forward to introducing our special brand of messy and creative fun to local families. Children love it because they can let their imaginations run wild and the adults love it because there is no mess to clear up at home. The programme is primarily aimed at 1 to 5 year olds but children up to 11 years can get creative at our Arty Parties and during school holiday sessions. Local organisations love our services too, as they can book us to support the services that they offer to their families and customers. Information about the sessions, our special launch offers and how to book can be found on our website or people can ring me direct on 0845 050 8743.”

Background Information:
Sarah started the business concept in 2002 in response to a lack of quality creative activities for her own three boys. During her three pregnancies she was confined to a wheelchair due to a medical condition. This frustrating experience fed her determination to nurture her relationship with her children through enjoyable and educationally valuable activities. So, she set about organising her own sessions.

With her background in management, design and teaching she developed a programme that involved parents, and engaged the children’s senses in a fun and relaxed way. This had the benefit of helping each child to concentrate for increasingly longer periods. Sarah initially ran the sessions from home in Exmouth, Devon. When she re-located to Loughborough in 2005 she set up the business and established the programme at community venues throughout Leicestershire. As the Creation Station sessions grew in popularity Sarah took on her first employee and recognised the need to build her own business related skills. She sought the advice of local business people, joined support networks and became involved in a mentoring scheme through Loughborough University.

The Creation Station concept had proved popular with Leicestershire families and Sarah looked at ways to grow the business. With a proven and educationally sound model at its core, she decided that developing a franchise would be the best way forward. This would give other mothers the chance to enjoy the same work/life balance she had established for herself.

After significant investment, and work with the British Franchise Association, the first pilot franchise was awarded in 2007 in Wysall, South Nottinghamshire. Since then, female-owned franchises have been awarded in North Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire Suffolk, Somerset and now, with Sarah’s move back to Devon, Leicestershire. A further two franchises are currently being awarded in, Bolton and Scotland and discussions are also underway with a children’s activity centre in Egypt.
