Home is where the heart is, or so says that adage.
Yes, a house can be a home when it is filled with love, joy, and laughter!
Still, experts maintain that among the more significant things which make a home beautiful is its owner’s character and style, which points out the truth that home decor and design are important factors in beautifying the home.
London-based Katharine Pooley shares a few of her secrets to making an interior design project a success.
For one, she zeroes in on the power of adding beautiful finishing touches which make a very good design for home interiors.
“I believe that finishing touches instantly elevate a room. These can be anything from beautiful curtain tie-backs and trimmings, to throw pillows and cushions. The Hermes range of interior fabrics stocked by Dedar includes some beautiful mid-size patterns which are perfect for statement cushions, “ she says.
Pooley is regarded by interior design art fans and her followers as a designer extraordinaire, a recognized industry expert, and a brand founder, and her ideas are well-recognized worldwide.
The British designer further shared that one of her dreams has always been to create a beautiful safari lodge in Africa, borne from her earlier experiences of many safaris, mesmerized by African landscapes for their “unsurpassable beauty.”
“I would be inspired to use a palette of natural tones, fabrics, and textures in a luxurious yet timeless combination. De Le Cuona fabrics have an amazing African-influenced range with beautiful textures, including their sumptuous sheers and signature washed linens which would work perfectly in the scheme,” Pooley confides.
Her future dream project would be an opportunity to design a yacht, or design another private jet, she further adds.
Clearly, it shows that home design and decoration are quite important parts of life, affecting people’s mood, health, and safety. And we can’t just ignore it!
American designer Barbara Barry recently confided in an interview that she loves creating a “calming space with a palette inspired by the garden,” with her penchant for designing soothing and ethereal homes.
“Underneath all, I design lies the solid belief that beauty is a positive force,” she shares.
Barry advises homemakers to blend nature with their home designs.
“Our homes are the places we go to be cosseted and renewed, and this home has all the benefits of indoor and outdoor living, as well as soothing colors, What could be better?
That’s an ongoing philosophy of mine,” Barry says.
She further adds that she is partial to the softer, more tonal colors such as sage, celadon, taupe, and celery simply because “these are easier to live with because they’re relaxing. “
Gardens peppered with beautiful ornamental greens and flowering trees always provide a soothing flavor for any home, she suggests.
“For this home, I loved the cool blue-greens juxtaposed against the more yellow greens ( plants), and I thought right away I would bring those colors inside. And I put warm tones against cool ones, just as in the garden, as in nature. I steal from nature all the time. I show up, and most of my work is done for me,“ says the American designer.
She adds: “A garden is full of infinite greens, the ocean full of infinite blues. I guess if you’re in New York and you’re looking at a brick wall, then you need to bring those tones in.”
Surely, with all these experts’ advice in beautifying our homes, we realize that organizing a home is a continuous job, and is here to stay!
Yet we also have help from the Internet, providing us with a myriad of ideas to continually improve our homes, making them lovelier and giving them some elegance and class.
Still, while some of the most beautiful homes in the world are designed by interior designers, we can learn from their expert advice and apply it ourselves, of course at a fraction of the cost of having professional designers take over in designing our homes.
For everyone who is taking a crack at do-it-yourself interior design, Barry emphasized having less focus on fabulousness and having design enthusiasts head in the direction of appreciation of beauty.
“Beauty counts,” says Barry, observing that small moments of appreciation and observation of beauty seem to be coming to a halt, because of our hurried lives. “There’s beauty in the simplest things.”
