Knowledge is familiarity with certain facts, information about a subject, experiments, descriptions, or skills acquired through practice and education. There are two classifications of knowledge; Theoretical Knowledge and Practical knowledge.
Theoretical know-how refers back to the theoretical readability of a specific situation or topic. Practically knowledge refers to the application of information in real life. For example, if you study the car and its engineered parts in a classroom from study materials and books you’ll be aware of all the theoretical aspects of a car but would you be able to drive it on the roads? No, you can’t because for that you need the skills of driving or the practical knowledge about the car to apply in your everyday life. Now, if you only have theoretical knowledge about the car, the usefulness of the car becomes zero as it cannot be used in real life. But we want theoretical know-how to get an awesome grip over sensible know-how. So, it is important to acquire knowledge to ensure growth in both personal and professional lives.
Practical Knowledge vs Theoretical knowledge
Although I don’t believe that any knowledge is enough without the other but this is a very common debate that which one is greater? The practical knowledge or the theoretical knowledge? In my personal opinion, I’ll say both are equally important to grow successful in life. But for the sake of popularity and curiosity, let’s find out who wins in this debate.
If we look intensely we will see that practical knowledge is the application of theoretical knowledge. So both come hand in hand and it is difficult to sideline one from the other. If you think of compromising on one form you may face a great amount of risk related to the work you’re doing.
Theoretical knowledge is very important and without having that practical knowledge may fail at times. There is a common phrase that little knowledge is a dangerous thing. It indeed is dangerous to know half the information about a subject or topic. Theoretical knowledge gives you expert knowledge regarding the subject. You can acquire theoretical knowledge through theoretical studies and research. Theory helps to make us question the subject. And through questioning the subject we get into deeper details and factual discussions of the subject. You get a vast and thorough idea about the subject you’re working on. The theory offers complete detailed knowledge about a subject or topic.
Practical knowledge is applying the theory in real life. It needs the skills of ‘knowing-how’. You need to acquire practical knowledge to make things work in real life. Practical knowledge is contextual and the application of the knowledge is needed in the specific situations where it is learned. Through sensible know-how, we have deeper know-how of an idea thru almost experiencing it. We regularly use our practical knowledge in our day-to-day lives. Certain things can only be learned through experiencing them or getting involved with them. For example, if you only learn theories about music or dance and never apply them in real life, you’ll probably never be able to sing or dance in your entire life. For that, you need to practically start singing and dancing to acquire the craft and skills of it.
This is the same for swimming or riding a bike or climbing the mountains or harvesting crops. You can only make it happen by practically experiencing it.
