Tooka, a teenage boy from Chicago, who was part of a gang, has recently become a huge part of the internet discussions. Eight years after his death, Tooka was first mentioned in King Von’s lyrics, and later some articles related to the teenager were published. So, who was TookA exactly? And what happened to him?
We’ll be discussing all that in this article. But before, here’s a brief version of what happened to him: Tooka was part of a gang based in Chicago, and in the year 2012, he was murdered in gang wars, where he was shot.
Who is/was Tooka?
Better known as Tooka (which was his street name), Shondale Gregory was a gang member in Chicago. Back in 2012, he was 15 years old. So, how did he die? Well, the date was 12th January 2012, and Tooka was waiting at a bus stop when someone pulled up in front of him in a car. The person got out of the car and started fighting with the teenage boy.
The fighting got a little out of hand, and Shondale was shot multiple times by the person. He died from bullet wounds. The gang that the Chicago teen was a member of was called “The Gang Disciples (GD)”. As for the reason, it’s been reported that another gang member, a 17-year-old Eddrick Walker, or better known by his street name “Ty”.
Tooka was shot in retaliation for his death. Ty was a member of the Chicago gang called “Black Disciples (BD)” who was rumored to have been killed by Tooka’s gang. Another gang member had to bite the dust; 20-year-old Odee Perry from BD was killed by GD gang members. Daily Mail reported that the murderer could be a close friend of Tooka named Gakirah Barnes.
She was known as one of the most notorious female gang members in US history. Later, Barnes too was killed in 2014, when she was 17 years old for killing Odee Perry. One death led to another, after Barnes’s death, no more deaths have been reported or so.
Why did King Von Hate Tooka?
Residing in the south side of Chicago, O Block, King Von is a rapper. He was named after Odee Perry, who was killed by one of the members of GD. He’s the grandson of David Barksdale who founded BD or more commonly known as King Dave. Members of each gang use social media or songs by their rappers to taunt one another.
This is part of their rivalry, and King Von has mentioned “smoking Tooka” on several accounts. If you search online for this phrase’s meaning, you’ll find that it refers to a potent version of marijuana. This phrase started spreading after Shondale’s death, who was “smoked” by Chief Keef’s crew. As of today, that’s used to humiliate Tooka’s death.
In his song titled “All These N*s”, King Von raps the line: “Tooka in my lung, I say that every time, ‘cause he got smoked. (He got smoked).”
This line made Tooka go viral on social media/news again, and the online community started questioning why King Von hates Shondale so much. According to an online user, Tooka might’ve beaten King Von in the past, which could be the reason he hates him so much.
In a YouTube video (that’s now been removed), a user says “F Tooka we took his life”. The video was originally posted on Instagram, reaching over 8000 views. Now, the video isn’t available on both platforms. Tooka is one of many gang members who lost their lives in gang squabbles, and their deaths were then mocked on social media.
But unlike most of them, Tooka is known worldwide. If you want to learn more about these gang wars, you can search for a video on Chicago gang wars.
